Since 2018 students from Transition Year and their teachers have been travelling to Belarus in May to volunteer at an orphanage for children and young adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. To date twenty-four students and six teachers have volunteered, with another group scheduled to go out in May 2020 (but did not travel due to the Covid 19 pandemic.)
Students and their teachers fundraise in their communities for this initiative. Our school has donated over €26,000 as well as volunteering for the Burren Chernobyl Project based in Co. Clare which looks after this programme. It supports two adult and two children’s orphanages in Belarus.
